FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q.    I am worried about bushfires. Do I need to be ?

A.    Tarra Valley, unlike other areas in Victoria,  remains lush and green all year round. It is old rainforest.  Also fire runs uphill, not down. In the extremely unlikely event of a fire actually being in the valley, our green lawns and creek form a naturally safe haven from both fire and smoke. We also have less Total Fire Ban Days here than in any other district in Victoria, perhaps only 3 or 4 days in any given year. Bushfires generally are a worry, but here at Best Friend Holiday Retreat we are most fortunate by virtue of our unique geographical location and all-year-round greenery.

Q  Have you a Fire Plan ?

A.  Yes.  Any fire within 50 km is monitored regularly and guests notified of any possible future danger. If at any time considered by us to be a threat we would evacuate all guests immediately. We do not believe in staying to defend.

Q  On  average, how many bushfires each year are a  threat to Tarra Valley ?

A  Absolutely none -  zero.

Q.    Do I have to pay a deposit on my booking?

A.    Yes, to secure a booking a deposit of approximately 50% is to be paid within 7 days.

Q.    Will I get a refund of my deposit if I subsequently have to cancel my booking?

A.    If you cancel more than 30 days from the commencement of your holiday, your deposit will be refunded in full.  If you cancel less than 30 days from the commencement of your holiday, your deposit will only be refunded if we are able to rebook your cabin or site at the same rate.

Q.    At what time may I check-in?

A.    Check-in time is any time from 2pm to 8pm both for cabins and for caravan/tent sites.  Please telephone us on the actual day if you wish to go outside of these hours.

Q.    At what time must I check-out by?

A.    If you are staying in one of our cabins, the check-out time is by 10am unless prior arrangements have been made.  If you are staying in one of our caravan/camping sites, the check-out time is by 12 noon.

Q.    Do you take credit card payments?

A.    No we do not have credit card or eftpos facilities.  We accept personal cheques, cash or direct payment into our bank account.

Q.    What are your bank account details?

Q.    Do you restrict dog breeds or number of dogs?

A.    No, every dog is treated on its own individual merit.

Q.    Is my dog allowed inside the cabins?

A.    Yes, provided he/she is fully housetrained and allowed the full run of your own home.

Q.    Are there paralysis ticks in your region?

A.    No, thankfully there are no paralysis ticks in our immediate South-east Gippsland region.

A.    No.  Closest coverage is at Devon North - 10km away.  We do have a coin-operated public telephone outside reception.

A.    No. Use of the hydrobath is free-of-charge.

A.    Yes.  Only on days of total fire ban are campfires disallowed (approx 3-4 days in a year). We have fire drums available, but you will need to bring your own wood .

Q.    Do you allow cats?

A.    Sorry, no.  With the dog facilities that we have in place it is just not practical for us to also cater for cats.

Q.    Do you allow horses?

A.    Sorry, no.  But there are places that do.  See www.havehorsewilltravel.com.au for properties that may cater to your needs.

Q.    What is a Dog Holiday Park?

A.    A Dog Holiday Park is a Park which has been specifically designed with people and their pet dogs in mind.   All accommodation will have individually securely fenced areas and the grounds will have securely fenced off-leash areas.  A Dog Holiday Park will also have such features as a dog playground, hydrobath, day-use kennels, etc.
